Bad Day

Last wednesday was a bad day for me. I like Wednesdays, but it was not a good one, unluckily. Had nothing to do with being Wednesday, though. It was a bad day in itself, one of those starting with foolish actions leading to a huge misunderstanding which ends up causing sorrow.

Anyway, it’s already Friday and I know it’s going to be all right, if only cause the week is almost gone and, most of all, because, as The Cure song said, “It’s Friday I’m In Love.” Looking forward to the rest of the weekend, but in the meantime I’m going to share now this song called “Bad Day” to exorcise last Wednesday’s misfortune.

And it’s true, nothing screws up your Friday more than realizing it’s only Wednesday :lol:, but you know, everything passes, everything changes, and now it’s truly Friday at last. Of course, anyone can have a bad Wednesday, but missing the one you love might be worse than just a bad day. It is not however Wednesday that I wanted to talk about, but just the R.E.M. song below:

A great song that reminds a lot the same sheer devastation of another REM’s tune, “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” which seems to have been inspired by the primitive draft of this one.

The song criticizes the shameless corruption seen all over our current world in the same breakneck pace of overwhelming news coming from our TV sets. Extreme differences between rich and poor, people being jerked around, greedy politicians and disgusting power abuse are reflected in the same unassimilable way TV news come to us.

Anyway, didn’t like to end this post in such a discouraging way, so I am sharing also this much more optimistic vision by the same band, with blessings to you all, Shiny Happy People of the WP community (the video I included here was blocked due to copyright issues, so I have changed it now for “The One I Love,” another beautiful uplifting song by R.E.M.) Happy Weekend.

R.E.M. line up is: Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe. I will mention as a curious fact that Bill Berry, one of its members, was born in Duluth, Minnesota, just like the recent Nobel Prize, Bob Dylan.

  13. Thank you for writing and sharing this beautiful post, Louis. In fact I tend to have ‘bad days’ too, more often than you think. I call them ‘bad hair day’ – because it is not only my mood that is bad, my hair looks awful and I am feeling like I want just sleep and wake up when the spring has arrived. This nostalgic mood is what many people, especially artists (like you) experience from time to time – and there is nothing wrong with that. What matters is – that you move on – and look ‘at the bright site’ – you need to ‘Taste The Dark Waters & See The Wild Wind’ – what I decsribed in detail in my last post on my blog (strongly recommend to read that one, as it could bring some answers and hopefully also inspiration). The song that I had in mind while writing it was a song by Matt Simons ‘To The Water’. Somehow I cannot stop listening to it ‘Take Me to the water/By The road that leads You down/Take Me to the water/Scatter me around/) – sometimes all we need is a big hug , here you go – there’s one for you my dear Friend.

Of course, ‘To The Water’ the song you mentioned makes Also a deep impact on me. i will certainly read your last article which, if only by the title, looks like a deep reflection on the artístic temperament and sure an interesting read. You’re welcome dear Louis, there is an English saying that ‘the friend in need is a friend indeed’ – and this is why if I feel instinctively that there is something wrong (like a bad day for example – a ‘warning sign’) – all I could do is send you some warm support – if we are talking about ‘uplifting music’ (and ‘To The Water’ according me to me was both moving and in many ways uplifting – check the version of that song with a Dutch singer Marco Borsato – a stunning, meaninful video) – so there is one more song that I want to recommend you tonight – it is called ‘WONDERFUL’ – by Gary Go:):) Have a beautiful Sunday dear Friend.

      3. Hi Anna, I just listened to the song in Dutch language by Marco Borsato w/Matt Simons, ‘Breng Me Naar Het.’ Ohhh, what a stirring version, it gave me goosebumps. Didn’t know about Gary Go and his song ‘Wonderful’; checked it out and listened. Indeed a great uplifting song. We should always say to ourselves ‘we are wonderful’ because it’s true, we are all miracles. Blessings and hugs to you.

    1. That’s wonderful. Thanks for stopping by and let me know about your Dylan passion. So nice to have come to know you. I am a huge Dylan fan, as you can see. Saw him 25 times live, since Barcelona 1989 (my first Dylan show,) and I still hope I’ll have a chance to see him again. So glad you love him too. He’s just amazing.
